Reason for highlighting

This extraordinary chapel, now in the care of the Church Conservation Trust, has retained much of its original 16th century glass – a sequence of apostles on the north side and prophets on the south.  It is an amazing survivor of the period.

Regrettably, a panel was stolen in 2016 and has not been recovered.

Artist/maker notes

Galyon Hone (c. 1467 – 1551/2) was a Flemish glazier, who emigrated to England, where in 1520 he was appointed the King’s Glazier. Despite his position, he was arrested in 1538 for infringing the prerogatives of the Glaziers Company.
