One of the very few windows in England by this important Irish artist whose work was deeply influenced by French Cubists.

The church has an excellent collection of post-war glass. In addition to the above there are three windows by John Piper & Patrick Reyntiens (north aisle west window 1961 – bold and beautifully coloured symbols of the Evangelists and their Old Testament antecedents; tower rose window, Rose and star composition, 1963; and south chapel west end ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ 1969), plus a south chapel window by the leading French artist, Jean Barillet, 1962.

Note, a short walk away is Ninian Comper’s masterpiece of St Mary’s, Wellingborough.

Artist/maker notes

Eva Sydney ‘Evie’ Hone (1894-1955) was one of the leading stained glass artists of the twentieth century, yet she only turned to glass in the 1930s. By this time, her study of painting had given her a deep understanding of colour and design, that allowed her works to have an exceptionally powerful and direct dialogue with the viewer. She initially worked at An Túr Gloine before setting up her own studio, also in Dublin.
