Edward Payne’s work is too often overlooked, but rewards close inspection and deserves greater recognition. Here the subject of ordinary daily and family life executed in his distinctive style resembles illustrations in contemporary children’s books. With 1960s clothes, scenes and messages, it is very much of its time, yet Payne has created a window with timeless appeal.
