An energetic window with a great swirling movement of flowing foliage and flowers, anchored by the police badge in the centre light.
On one of the Saturday Walk & Talk events which I helped coordinate for the BSMGP, we met Henry in Dorset and he took us to see this and several other of his installed windows, and spoke about his methods and intentions.
Henry and his family knew PC Yvonne Fletcher well, as she was a local girl, and in her younger days before joining the police force she used to child mind for his family.
Artist/maker notes
Henry Haig (1930-2007) was introduced to Wimbledon School of Art by a school teacher, who recognised his talent. After the war and National Service, he studied at the Royal College of Art under Lawrence Lee, before establishing his own studio. His work is symbolic and abstract, always working to bring a deeper understanding from the interplay of light and glass.
