Reason for highlighting

It is a classic A.J. Davies window, richly made and colourful with a very Arts & Craft feeling. The theme is the Adoration of the Shepherds, set against a background of diamond quarries.

Other comments

A painting by Louis Davis of the Virgin and Child with cherub and rabbits can be seen just over a mile down the road at the Church of All Saints, West Lavington.

Editor: In 2006, Andrew Taylor made a window for the church on the theme of ‘The Sacraments’, representing Baptism, Marriage and the Eucharist. It is situates above the baptismal font in the south aisle, west wall.

Artist/maker notes

Archibald John Davies (1877-1953) trained at Birmingham School of Art under Henry Payne before setting up his own studio at the Bromsgrove Guild of Applied Arts, Worcestershire, in 1906. His studio produced some 300 windows for the UK and another 100 went abroad, particularly to Canada and Southern Africa.
