Henry Haig, 1989Reason for highlighting
A colourful energetic window with characteristic swirling movement, along with a formal RAF badge in the centre, showing aspects of RAF Lyneham air base. Within the window there are coded markings relating the landing runways, some showing the guiding night lights which, apparently, any pilot who used the aerodrome would recognise and find familiar.
Artist/maker notes
Henry Haig (1930-2007) was introduced to Wimbledon School of Art by a school teacher, who recognised his talent. After the war and National Service, he studied at the Royal College of Art under Lawrence Lee, before establishing his own studio. His work is symbolic and abstract, always working to bring a deeper understanding from the interplay of light and glass.

Haig’s window was made to celebrate 50 years of RAF Lyneham. Across on the north side of the nave is a further commemorative window, this time for 47 Squadron RAF. It too is full of symbolism, and was design by Trevor Wiffen, and made and installed by Salisbury Cathedral Stained Glass in 2007.
