Memorial Chapel - The Nativity and the Three Wise MenArtist, maker and date
Designed by Charles E Stewart for J.T. & C.E. Stewart, 1955Reason for highlighting
Saint Modan’s is furnished in high church liturgical style within which a range of outstanding stained glass windows features. This small nativity scene is an intimate portrayal. The little curly haired Christ child with prescient face, sits in the lap of Mary, in Madonna blue. A white woolly lamb looks on. The richly attired Magi holding their gifts approach. During a visit by the BSMGP in 2010, this window made a deep impression, being described by distinguished stained glass practitioners as “deeply spiritual”.
Artist/maker notes
Charles Edward Stewart (1885–1974) was the son of John Tytler Stewart (1858-1930) and became his father’s assistant and apprentice at William Meikle & Sons. In 1907 they left to form their own studio, J. T. & C. E. Stewart, which finally closed on Charles’ retirement in 1960.

Other comments
Amongst the other windows, two stand out.
In the south transept is an outstanding two-light window by Douglas Strachan (Christ Healing and the Via Dolorosa), 1915
While in the chancel is a World War I memorial window ‘The Glory of Sacrifice’ by Stephen Adam Studio, 1921. It shows gallant knights preparing to depart for war. A tableau of fine portraiture.
