Reason for highlighting

Dedicated by the donors to the ‘skill and dedication of all craftsmen’, the window depicts a carpenter, a bricklayer and two masons in contemporary dress with plenty of clever and often amusing detail.

Other comments

For the Millennium, Fiddes and Bechgaard made a second window, an exuberant, colourful and characterful interpretation of the Nativity.

Also noteworthy, from a different era, is excellent, vividly detailed stained glass by C.E. Moore (1920 and 1951).

Artist/maker notes

Christopher John Ellis Fiddes (b.1934) is a Northamptonshire born artist and designer of stained glass windows, whose work has championed both social and local causes.

Nicholas Bechgaard (b.1948) studied Fine Art at Hornsey College of Art and then spent another four years working in London as a painter and photographer. He then travelled widely, while adding stained glass to his portfolio. Since 2002 he has concentrated solely on photo-based painting.
