Overview
There are a number of artists who have contributed to this website through their individual selections of 10 fine examples of British stained glass windows. While all naturally refrained from recommending their own work in the 10 selected, they have been asked to choose a window of their own that they feel reflects their personal work. This is Sasha Ward’s selection.

80 square metres of enamelled and sandblasted glass for a dramatic feature staircase window.Artist, maker and date
Designed by Sasha Ward and made by Proto Glass Studios, 2012Reason for highlighting
I was commissioned to produce a dramatic stairwell window for a new Premier Inn at a crossroad in Liverpool One. The design is based on the locality of the commission, making use of historic maps that show how the area has changed over the past three centuries, though traces of rope walks, gardens and enclosed docks are visible today. The idea of overlaying plants on the design is inspired both by the use of plant motifs in architectural decoration and by the wayside plants that you can see taking over buildings, even when they are in use.
