Reason for highlighting

A vast installation – 200 square meters of glass of contemporary design, using a superb pastel palette inspired by the scent of freesias.

The glass is sited in an unusual location, high in the roof; different views of the colourful array are glimpsed momentarily from the darker interior of the converted Royal Exchange, now a theatre space.

The Royal Exchange Theatre is open during the day. it also has a café from where one can look up and appreciate the glass far above.

Artist/maker notes

Amber Hiscott was born in Swansea and studied in the Architectural Glass Department of Swansea College of Art from 1972-5. After a further period of study with the German glass artist Ludwig Schaffrath, she set up her own studio. She has worked on small and large scale projects and developed an international reputation with her bold abstract colours and movement. Working with David Pearl, as Amber +Pearl, she has created an extensive collection of architectural glass.
