West window of the north wall under the gallery – The Weaver windowArtist, maker and date
Alec Galloway, 2004Reason for highlighting
A window full of symbolism that evokes the deep connection between the city, the Tay and the jute plant. At its centre the cross, which itself carries the imprint of a piece of jute cloth. A window worthy of study.
Artist/maker notes
Alec Galloway (b.1964) is a stained glass artist and painter based in Inverclyde on the West coast of Scotland. After studying at the Edinburgh College of Art, he spent some time working in the UAE, before returning to Scotland in 2000. In conjunction with taking up a teaching post at the ECA (2000-12), where he took over from his teacher Douglas Hogg, he also developed a commercial business, which in recent years has also included many public art projects.

Other comments
There is plenty more stained glass to see in the church from the 19th to the 21st centuries. Including adjacent to Alec Galloway’s window a typical example of the work of Gordon Webster, 1975, one of a number of windows made by him for the church. While in the gallery good work includes windows by William Wilson, 1957, and John K Clark, 1987.
