There is also a little old English glass, mainly armorials, along with some new, but historically informed, enamelled glass that replaces pieces lost from Walpole’s time.

There is some contemporary glass, 2011, by John McLean, that has been placed either side of the front entrance. John McLean, who died in June 2019, was an outstanding abstract artist. He was particularly proud of his work at Strawberry Hill, along with his 2014 windows in Norwich Cathedral. The glass is a replacement for glass lost following an explosion at a gun powder factory in Hounslow in 1772 – better late than never!
A short walk from the back of Strawberry Hill House is St Mary’s University Chapel. Built in the early 1960s, it has a dramatic set of windows in dalle de verre by Gabriel Loire, 1963-5 – well worth a visit.
