The window illustrates part of a widely popular devotional poem of c.1340, ‘The Pricke of Conscience’. This anonymous poem was written in the Northumbrian dialect of Middle English. The part illustrated concerns the End of the World, depicted in fifteen signs or ‘days’ – the last fifteen days of the world. The window is read left to right and bottom to top.
The close up image of two of the panels shows fish leaping out of the sea ‘roaring’, and, above, earthquakes destroying buildings.
There is more fine 14th and 15th century glass in the other windows.
