Central window of the south wall - Six Acts of MercyArtist, maker and date
Gordon Webster, 1966Reason for highlighting
Although common in Victorian times, the Six Acts of Mercy are not frequently encountered in 20th century glass. Also notable is the fact that someone of African origin is depicted here in stained glass, even if he is the recipient of charity.
Artist/maker notes
Gordon MacWhirter Webster (1908-87) was the second son of Alf Webster, who died in the First World War. He was trained by Douglas Hamilton, who had taken over running the Stephen Adam studio on behalf of Maude Webster, Alf’s widow, in the 1920s. He was initially influenced by his father’s work, before developing his own style and producing some very fine work.

Other comments
The chancel has a large war memorial window by Douglas Hamilton, 1948. It is unusual in that it both commemorates those who lost their lives, as well as giving thanks for those of their colleagues who survived and returned home.
