Reason for highlighting

A First World War memorial window depicting the move from civilian, academic life, to the military experience endured by so many young men.

This window is also biographical as Stubington left the School of Art to serve as an officer with the Hampshire Regiment in 1915.

Other comments

Most of the other windows in the church are from major Victorian studios, an exception is a fine window by Tony Naylor installed in 2015.

Artist/maker notes

Richard John Stubington (1885-1966) was a student at Birmingham School of Art, where he was an assistant to his teacher, Henry Payne. He succeeded Payne as a teacher of stained glass at the School when Payne left in 1909, inspiring a generation of students to take up stained glass work.
