These are windows of real and impressive originality. They not only suit the renewed interior of the Chapel in terms of colour and design, but contribute a series of challenging images that are full of allusions and references to engage the viewer.

The Chapel is located on the first floor of the King’s building directly above the Great Hall. Visitors should initially go to the Strand Reception desk.

Artist/maker notes

Joseph ‘Joe’ Ambrose Nuttgens (b. 1941) trained at the Central School of Art and the Royal College of Art, and worked as Patrick Reyntiens’ assistant, mainly on John Piper’s windows. He is the son of Joseph Edward ‘Eddie’ Nuttgens and re-established his studio after his death in 1982. He seeks to make windows that do not necessarily assert his individual style but that complement the architectural space in which they are set, whether it be historic or modern.
