Roger Wilson

Roger Wilson taught history at Loughborough Grammar School from 1975 until his retirement in 2002. Since then he has continued a lifelong interest in the ‘history around us’ that started in his teenage years cycling round the lanes of Kent to visit churches, to today when, mainly through the u3a, he helps to open people's eyes to the huge interest to be found in our churches.

His passion for stained-glass was sparked by attending a WEA class run for several years in Leicester led by Paul Sharpling, who published several key books on East Midlands stained glass. This led Roger and a group of friends to form the Leicester Stained-Glass Appreciation Group, which met for several years with a mixture of in-house talks, visiting speakers and stained-glass artists, and visits. A rare and probably unique example of a group set up by amateurs enthusiastic about stained-glass.
