Piotr Frac Stained Glass
Piotr Frac trained in the conservation and restoration of stained glass at the Opus Art College and the University of Silesia in Poland, before moving to London in 2006, where a passion for creating stained glass art and sharing those techniques with others has been the foundation for building a business and a new life in his adopted country.
He is now based in the Community Art Room in the crypt of St John’s in Bethnal Green, East London, from where since 2011 he has offered courses to aspiring stained glass artists. The courses offer a unique opportunity to explore the craft and are open to adults of all skill levels. His students have gone on to created artwork for residential buildings, schools, and public spaces, and two exceptionally talented students, went on to win the prestigious Stevens Competition Commission, organised by the Glaziers Livery Company – Guoda Kvietinskaite in 2021 and Cathy Lee in both 2023 and 2024. Cathy Lee also received the Ashton Hill Award in 2024.
A further teaching role was taken on in 2024 when he began teaching stained glass at Morley College in Waterloo, south London.
Notable projects include windows for the permanent collection at the Museum of London and St John of Jerusalem Church in Hackney, along with competition-winning work for Abney Park Cemetery Chapel, Stoke Newington.
With a passion for teaching, he found the making of the Abney Park Cemetery Chapel windows was particularly enjoyable, as it was part of a community orientated project organised by Hackney Council and Abney Park Trust, which included working with local school children in the formulation of the design. The project also demonstrated the benefit of co-operation within the craft, with valuable input from Petri Anderson at Mongoose Stained Glass and Steve Lewis at SDL Stained Glass.
Although traditionally trained as a stained glass artist, he enjoys blending contemporary art with new techniques, and enjoys collaborating with other artists, including street artist ‘Stik,’ Renne Soo, and Elaine Mitchener.
Since 2018, he has also been the Studio Art Director at Lead and Light in Camden, one of the oldest stained glass studios and supply stores in London.
