Tarrant, Jude

Judith Margaret ‘Jude’ Tarrant AMGP (b.1957) was born in Eccleshill, Bradford and studied politics at Portsmouth University. She discovered her ‘vocation’ in stained glass when her husband-to-be brought home a discarded painted stained glass window. Suddenly there was the option to combine a lifelong interest in drawing and art, with a desire to use hands on craft skills. While largely self-taught, she also benefited from working with the glass-painter, Harold Thompson, who was working as a stained glass artist at Chichester Cathedral. Since then her career has blossomed with work on a wide range of new commissions, both secular and religious, as well as conservation work. She remains in Portsmouth where she works at Sunrise Stained Glass Studio, with her husband.
