Joseph Bell of Bristol was founded by Joseph Bell (1810-1895) in 1840 and there is a fine article on Bell’s early years in Jim Cheshire’s book noted below. Bell was succeeded by his son, Frederick Bell (1847-1899) and grandson, Frederick Bell (1878-1967) before the business was sold to Arnold Robinson in 1923.
