Orr, Arthur Anselm
Arthur Anselm Orr (1868-1949) was a stained glass designer, born in Chiswick, west London. He was educated in Dublin, before studying at the Westminster School of Art and the Royal College of Art. He first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1899 and his work appeared regularly until 1947. He was a keen sportsman, playing rugby for Wasps, and an enthusiastic member of the local Volunteer Force during the 1914-18 war, despite his affliction of deafness. He worked with many firms including Hardmans, A.L. Moore, A.J. Dix, Powells, Reuben Bennett of Manchester, and Walter J. Pearce of Wilmslow. A young J.E. Nuttgens worked for him as a draughtsman.
