Clutterbuck, Charles Edmund

Charles Edmund Clutterbuck (1806-1861) was born in London and began his career as a painter of miniatures, exhibiting eight times at the Royal Academy between 1826 and 1833. Switching to stained glass saw him working on a much broader scale, but often using enamels in a pictorial manner reminiscent of the eighteenth century. A fine example being his east window for St Anne’s, Limehouse, London, currently the subject of a major restoration project.
From his studio in Stratford, East London he supplied cathedrals and churches across the country and Australia. Upon his death his son Charles Edmund Clutterbuck Jnr (1839-1883) carried on the business.
