Keith Coleborn ARCA (1909-2005) was a talented and respected artist who lived for many years in the village of Downe, nr Orpington. He was the principal of a number of art schools throughout his career, and married to the artist, Freda Coleborn.

The image shown here is of the second window he made for the church of St Mary, Downe. It is a Tree of Jesse window,1986, and was given by Mary Knox-Johnston in memory of her husband, Robin. The other window, 1973, was given by the parents of Robin Knox-Johnston in thanksgiving for his safe return after making the first solo circumnavigation of the world under sail without touching land.

Freda Coleborn also has a stained glass connection to the church of St Mary, Downe, through a copy she made of a 15th century French panel currently in the V&A, and which was placed in the church in 1978. Full details of the original can be found at V&A Collections – Pierre Michel
