Scott and Drape

Scott & Drape was a short lived partnership between John Scott (1812–87) and David Relph Drape (1821-82). Both men had worked in Carlisle for a number of years before they came together following the retirement of John Scott’s father in the spring of 1855, and the death the previous year of David Drape’s employer, the artist William Atkinson. In announcing the new partnership they highlighted a wide range of services including ‘Carving, Guilding, Glass Staining, House and Church Painting, and Decorating.’
Subsequent notices in the Carlisle press refer to a number of stained glass commissions, including in 1856 for a window for St Paul’s church , Dundee. The partnership was dissolved in April 1858 when Drape accepted an offer from Ferguson & Urie of North Melbourne, Australia, with whom he would have a long association. Scott continued to work in Carlisle until he retired in the early 1880s.
