Cole, F. W.
Frederick Walter Cole FMGP (1908-1998) joined William Morris & Co (Westminster) Ltd in 1926 and rose to become chief designer. In 1946, after war service, Cole was invited to restart the studio by the Pollard Group, who had purchased the business in 1935. When Pollard’s withdrew from stained glass and closed the studio 1958 Cole joined Wippell & Co, before setting up his own studio in Fulham in 1961. This ran until at the invitation of the Dean and Chapter he set up the pioneering restoration studio at Canterbury Cathedral, in 1971.
